Boroughbridge town pump
The cover over the 256-foot deep artesian well was built in 1875. It was gifted to the town by Mrs Lawson of Aldborough Manor in memory of her husband Andrew, who had died three years earlier. The extravagant canopy is one of the most ornate in England.

Sign for the Black Bull
The colour black is a very common colour as far as pub names are concerned occurring in at least fifty different names.
It has been suggested that some 'black' names came about when the Gin Act of 1736 came into force, causing tavern owners to drape their signs in black velvet or add 'black' to the pub name.
Perhaps in view of this colour's association with mourning and other rather dreary states of mind, it is surprising that so many names make use of it.

Church Lane, Boroughbridge
The road is dominated by the tower of St James' church [currently under repair], a Victorian replacement for the former church which stood in St James Square.

Tower, St James's Church, Boroughbridge
The church was built in 1852 by Mallinson and Healey and is of sandstone ashlar. The tower 18 feet square and 70 feet high.

The Black Bull
Almost certainly the oldest pub in Boroughbridge, with parts of the building being medieval. It gets a mention in the 'Good Beer Guide', and has a resident ghost.
