Strensall New Bridge
Strensall New Bridge carries Haxby Moor Road over the River Foss. It was built by the Foss Navigation Company about 1795 and is the only bridge built by the company surviving intact. It is built in brick with a nicely detailed stone dressing to the arch. Note that no provision was made for the tow path to pass under the arch, probably a cost saving measure. This part of the navigation was abandoned after an Act of parliament of 1859
