Wall near Monk Bar
This section of wall consists of a great many arches, which kept the strength of the wall but allowed less stone to be used. Below this section of medieval wall the remains of the Roman wall can be seen.

Ice House near Monk Bar
A brick ice house of circa 1800 built into the rampart on the north side of the city wall near Monk Bar. Inside is a pit some 6m deep, in which ice was stored for the use of the city's fishmongers. Ice would have been collected in winter from the Ouse, or possibly from the Foss, which is nearer.

Monk Bar Ice House, York
Early 19th century brick ice house outside York city walls southeast of Monk Bar. The ice house is a deep brick-lined pit covered by a domed roof, where ice would be stored in the winter months for use during the summer.
