An ex-NE Raven J27 0-6-0 in York Locomotive Yard
View NE, in the incomparable line-up of locomotives visible from the road by the York (North) Locomotive Depot in Steam days. Behind J27 No. 65894 seems to be a V2 2-6-2 and on the right a Peppercorn Pacific and the nose of a Diesel - which in the form of English-Electric Type 4's were just beginning to take over the ECML expresses. No. 65894 lasted until 9/67, to be the last of its Class, and is preserved as NER No. 2392 at the Darlington Railway Centre.

A B16/3 4-6-0 in York Locomotive Yard, 1960
View eastward from Poppleton Road, the main line being beyond and the Locomotive Depot (now the National Railway Museum) being to the right. The B16s were very much associated with York and at that time more than half the Class of 67 were allocated there. This No. 61454, one of the 17 class B16/3 Thompson-rebuilds, built originally 10/23 as No. 1371, rebuilt 12/44 and becoming 1454 in 1946 and withdrawn as 61454 in 6/64.

York North Locomotive Yard, 1961
View NW away from the round-houses of this great Depot that since closed in June 1967 has been occupied from 1974 by the National Railway Museum. The coaling plant is a major feature and the nearer locomotives include Gresley V2 2-6-2 No. 60858 (built 5/38 as LNE No. 4829, withdrawn 10/63), Peppercorn A1 4-6-2 No. 60127 'Wilson Worsdell', built 5/49, withdrawn 6/65) and his K1 2-6-0 No. 62005 (built 6/49, withdrawn 12/67 = last of the Class).
