Up freight passing York Racecourse (Holgate) Platform
View northward, towards York Yards and Station. The Class H freight is coming off the Goods lines and up the Leeds lines, headed by ex-NE B16/1 4-6-0 No. 61413 (built 8/20 as No. 911, withdrawn 9/61). There were 70 of these Raven S3 mixed-traffic 4-6-0s, most of which worked from York on this type of train.

New Measurement Train in Holgate Siding No. 1
The New Measurement Train entered service in 2003 and traverses much of the UK rail network inspecting track. The train is often referred to as "The Flying Banana" in reference to its all over yellow livery. However, recently the original 3 powercars (43013/43014/43062) have been succeeded by 43299 and 43290, as the replacement of HSTs on the East Coast Mainline provided the opportunity for Network Rail to acquire re-engined locomotives. Here, 43251 and 43257 are powering the train.
The train visits York several times a month to traverse the ECML and TransPennine routes looking for defects.
Here the train is the resting between duties, having arrived last night having operated 1Q67 from Goole. Tonight it will proceed to Wigan North Western under the same headcode, taking a route via Hebden Bridge, Manchester Victoria, back to Hebden Bridge, Halifax and Blackburn.
