Old milestone
This West Riding CC milestone stands at the east end of Copmanthorpe. This road was once the main road now by-passed on the other side of a high wooden fence. These milestones were set up by the family firm of Gill Stead and Son of Mirfield. The backing stone had to be from a quarry in Kirstall (Leeds) or of a similar quality. Image]

Old Milestone by Tadcaster Road, the former A64, Copmanthorpe Parish
Metal plate attached to stone post by the UC road (by A64), in parish of COPMANTHORPE (YORK District), by Bellaire, on old A64 into Copmanthorpe separated from new line of main road by tall wooden fence, on the verge, on South side of road. West Riding iron casting, erected by the County Council in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : TADCASTER / 6 MILES / LEEDS / 20 MILES : : TADCASTER & HOB MOOR / ROAD / COPMANTHORPE : : YORK / 3½ MILES : Carved benchmark on left side. Grade II listed.
