Victoria Bar
An early 19th century intrusion into the 13th century wall and rampart. Nowadays this would involve extensive archaeological investigation, but I don't know how seriously that would have been taken in 1838. A plaque above the central arch reads 'Erected by public subscription under the direction of the City Commissioners AD 1838 George Hudson Esq. Lord Mayor'.

Walk past this most mornings on my way to the train station, and have noticed a wonderfully sweet smell - then noticed that the Council has planted lots of honeysuckle around the toilets - genius idea
