Having hauled the train from Pickering, this locomotive was removed from the train, and Eric Treacy replaced it for the journey to Whitby.

The footpath running south from Grosmont climbs a hill through which passes a railway tunnel. From this hill, the valley setting of Grosmont town becomes clearer. North of Grosmont the line runs to Whitby.

Derelict brick kiln, Grosmont [northern end]
Seen from a northbound train. A tile and brickworks opened in Grosmont in 1870, expanded in the early 1900s and built a new Hoffman Kiln in 1923. The business closed in 1957.
