Former school, Church Street
Constructed from local sandstone, this former school bears the following inscription over an upper window...'THIS SCHOOL WAS BUILT BY MRS HANNAH CHOLMLEY 1868. EXCEPT THE LORD BUILD THE HOUSE THEY LABOUR IN VAIN THAT BUILD IT. PSALM 127.1' One suspects that the splendid Mrs Cholmley did not build the school all by herself.
