Running round at Whitby
At the time of the photo, shunting of North Yorkshire Moors Railway trains had to be done outside the station. The layout has now been changed, with the original 2nd platform being brought back into use and running round being done within the station.

Steam Train at Whitby
LNER B1 class steam locomotive 61264 stands at the head of a North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train ready to leave Whitby for the journey to Pickering. The B1 class was a wartime utility mixed-traffic locomotive for general passenger and freight duties - the LNER equivalent of the ubiquitous LMS "Black Five". A total of 410 were built between 1942 and 1952. Locomotive number 61264 was completed and entered traffic on 5th December 1947. Used on the many express passenger services between Nottingham, Leicester and London (Marylebone), 61264 was withdrawn in November 1965.

NYMR Locomotive No. 45407
This actual steam locomotive was used in the film comedy “Keeping Mum”, released in 2005. I discovered this by accident as I watched the film today. In the opening sequence, you can clearly see the number 45407 as the train pulls into the station. ( In reality, Pickering station). There is also a great view of the Esk Valley as the train steams through. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs the steam trains twice daily, between Pickering and Whitby.
