Old Milestone, Malton
In a private Garden at the junction of Welham Road & Whitewall Corner Hill. Originally located on the Great North Road (A638) at SE 52515 09380, after road widening removed the fork in the road and before the dual carriageway was constructed in the 1960s. The declared mileages are somewhat dubious.

Old milestone
This 1893/94 West Riding CC milestone was set up on the A1 Great North Road, north of Doncaster at SE524094, Red House. When the A1(M) Doncaster by-pass was constructed in 1960 the road level was altered and this stone was lying by the old road now a path. A local rescued it and set it in his front garden in Woodlands for a number of years. Early 2000s, it was sold to someone in York and displayed outside his house there. When he sold the house he gave the milestone to a friend at Whitewall south of Norton. It is now safe in that garden. It is set with the Leeds mileage, 22½ Miles and Pontefract, 9¼ Miles under soil level.
