West facade with twin bellcote, St Michael and All Angels
Domesday records a church in the village in 1086. This is possibly the third church to be built on this site. Rebuilt in 1870-71 to replace a medieval building which had fallen into disrepair. Fragments of late Romanesque sculpture, dating from 1160 have been re-used in the structure. The current building is Grade II listed. The name Barton-Le-Street derives from the village's location along the Roman road running from Malton towards Aldborough.
