North Riding Brew Pub, 161-163 North Marine Road, Scarborough
The North Riding Hotel was built in the 1850’s. (can’t see it listed in 1855). Still with accommodation, the pub officially opened its own brewery in the cellars in February 2011 and has a 7 firkins kettle to brew beers, just for the pub, each week. I only have a couple of directories that cover Scarborough in the period and they list; 1893 Mrs Caroline Thirkell; 1913 Mrs Mary Jane Johnson.

Hollywood Plaza, 159 North Marine Road, Scarborough
North Bay Cinema opened in 1914 showing silent films and possibly before conversion to sound it closed in 1926. Stripped out it was used as a garage up to the late 1970s when Arthur Turner bought it and in 1981 reconverted the old cinema back for film usage as the Hollywood Plaza. Arthur bought 224 seats from the Spa Theatre (Scarborough). His curtains came from the Dorchester Theatre in Hull. The projector was a British Thomas Hewson Periscope system. At that time the cinema only opened from the May bank holiday week until the end of September. After Arthur, Barrie Stead ran the cinema and took out the ageing projectors and mirror-reflectors used to project films and installed new equipment with Dolby stereo. The Wurlitzer organ, from Ipswich ABC Cinema, that Arthur installed was removed in 2008 and stored in St Leonards near Hastings.
