This is where Meads Lane crosses the Scarborough to York railway line. Beyond this the lane passes under the A64 through the bridge shown in Image The crash barriers on the embankment of the A64 can be seen.

A64 bridge near Long Lane
This bridge carries the A64 Seamer by-pass over the Scarborough to Bridlington rail line (not seen) and also this footpath into the Burton Riggs nature reserve. The reserve was created from gravel quarries which had been served by Long Lane.

Long Lane crossing
Long Lane crossing was originally a road crossing but since the construction of the Seamer by-pass A64 which truncated the road, it has been reduced to a pedestrian crossing only. The low white building is the original crossing keepers cottage built by the York & North Midland Railway about 1845. It is a standard design by George Townsend Andrews. Scarborough to Manchester train passing across the left of the photograph.
