Looking along St Nicholas Street towards Newborough
St Nicholas Street was once the principal commercial street. In this view can be seen the HSBC bank in palazzo style of the mid 19th century and beyond that another former bank also of the palazzo style which started life as the Town Hall. the building under scaffolding at the very end is at the corner with Newborough and was Woodall, Hebden & Co's bank, now Barclays by Henry Wyatt. The premises now occupied by Marks & Spencer were occupied by Solomon Theakston at 19th century Scarborough Institution though what you see today is a replica dating from the 1980s. There is a heritage trail plaque in the entrance.
