St Martin's Avenue looking seawards
St Martin's Avenue viewed from the corner with Carlton Terrace. On the left, behind the tree a large open space used as a car park, though it originally contained the society photographer Oliver Sarony's studio. The pale green building is Fairview Court. Built in 1856 it was probably originally a terrace of houses, they became the Fairview Hotel and, after restoration of the building in the 1980s, now flats. Between first and second floor windows there are 29 cartouches with Tudor style heads in high relief; these are said to represent some of Sarony's clients. Beyond this building South Street comes in from the right.
