Former Aberdeen Picture House, Aberdeen Walk
The Aberdeen Picture House was designed by Scarborough Architect Frank Tugwell in 1920.Tugwell had a distinctive style and cinemas/theatres were one of his specialisms. The ground floor of the building has been in retail use for many years but externally the upper floors retain their original faience (a characteristic material of cinemas) and robust lettering. It forms a commercial group with the Scarborough Evening News Office and Head Post Office

Business on Aberdeen Walk, its name based on the local tongue-in-cheek nickname for the town, alluding to the touristic attractions of its Caribbean climate (not pictured).

Aberdeen Street
Aberdeen Street is a small street which runs off Aberdeen Walk. The building carries two nice cast iron street nameplates, "Aberdeen Street" and, to the right of it "Formerly St John's Street". St John's Street was renamed Aberdeen Street as of 1st October 1949.

41A Aberdeen Walk on Aberdeen Street, Scarborough
Shown on the OS map as part of 41 Aberdeen Walk, Zoe's is variously listed as 41A Aberdeen Walk and Street, 13 Aberdeen Street, 7 Aberdeen Street and 43A Aberdeen Walk. Aberdeen Street was formerly St John's Street that seems to first appear in the 1913 directories. In 1913 'Tom Stanners Grocer' is listed at 41 Aberdeen Walk. I can find no reference to Dale Smith's anywhere.

Politi-gull poster, Scarborough
Attached to a bus shelter in Aberdeen Walk, with variants posted around the town. Seagulls have traditionally been politically neutral, having both right and left wings, but this one seems more partisan. Given that in recent General Elections, the local constituency has returned a Conservative MP, there are presumably plenty of targets.

Newspaper Office, Aberdeen Walk
This is the offices of the Scarborough Evening News and Mercury where the local newspaper has been published since 1882. The offices were designed by local architect John Hall, though may have been altered by the practice of Hall, Cooper & Davies. There are some good Arts & Crafts entrance gates in wrought iron.
