War Department Boundary Stone #14 - Imphal Barracks
This WD BS #14 is set into the south east corner pillar of Imphal Barracks on the east side of Fulford Road. It is one of a set of 16 stones that once surrounded the large split military site. Some stones have gone, some I have missed, and some are still within secure MOD property. I have photographed just six of the existing stones. The inscription "5 in West" refers to the fact that the base of the wall flares out slightly, so the boundary is actually five inches further out than the face of the pillar. House at the corner of Fulford Cross and Fulford Road. A building is marked here on the 1852 1:500 Town Plan and named on the 1891 edition as Stone Cross Cottages. However, it is not clear whether this is the same as the current building.

Officers' Quarters, Imphal Barracks
Building dating from 1887, forming part of the infantry barracks set up then, viewed from across Fulford Road. The barracks were renamed the Imphal Barracks in the 1950s to commemorate the role of the West Yorkshire Regiment at the 1944 Battle of Imphal in India which prevented the invasion of India by Japan.
