Fishergate House
Large house, built in 1837-40 for Thomas Laycock, a doctor best known for his work on neurophysiology. It was designed by local architects J B and W Atkinson. Having been used as a headquarters building for the Ministry of Defence (the 1936 25 inch map marks it as an Ordnance Survey Office) and then offices for builders Shepherd Homes, it was converted into flats around 2000. This is the view from Blue Bridge Lane, with the former service wings in the background and the main house beyond. Grade II listed - see https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1257845?section=official-list-entry.
