The use of buff terracotta as a decorative feature of domestic architecture is rare, particularly on relatively small houses such as these. An intriguing feature is that the nearer house has had the brickwork on the frontage painted, while the red terracotta is left natural; on the far house the brickwork is natural but the red terracotta has been overpainted in a not-quite-matching red. The house names are presented in prominent terracotta panels. The choice of names is intriguing - Quinton is a suburb of Birmingham, whereas Ventnor is on the Isle of Wight.

Decorative terracotta, 54/56 Coalway Road
I have been unable to link the coat of arms and motto (Suaviter sed Fortiter - Gently but Strongly) to a specific family. This profusion of terracotta decoration on a small semi-detached house is rare.

Changing rooms, and parking for about fifty cars are by the Pinfold Lane entrance. There are also some areas of woodland with some very mature trees, and a children's play area near the Linton Road entrance (off to the right). The white paint conceals the fact that this is in red terracotta, matching the window sills above.
