The Way in Worcester Street, Wolverhampton
This ambitious project for young people's activities has begun construction in Worcester Street, and is seen from the Penn Road Island.
This will be called The Way, and is expected to cost £6 million. This side of the city has fallen into dereliction in recent years due to the recent recession and indecisive development plans. With the Tesco/Sainsbury fiasco now over, the new Sainsbury store open, plans for rebuilding the indoor market and the Mander Centre progressing, and hopefully the Summer Row development idiocy behind us, this new youth facility should herald the restart of our city's recovery. http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2014/10/23/work-to-begin-on-wolves-chairmans-youth-zone-project/ http://www.onsideyouthzones.org/youth-zones/wolverhampton-youth-zone/
The Wolverhampton Youth Zone will be located on Worcester Street in Wolverhampton, and is expected to open in early 2016. The Youth Zone will offer a multitude of activities for young people to partake in, such as sport, fitness, dance, arts, music, media, enterprise and wellbeing and self-improvement. The state-of-the-art facility will boast a high spec music room, a 3G pitch, enterprise media suite, climbing wall, multi-use four court sports hall, cafe, dance studio, gym, cooking area, general recreation area and much more. - See more at: http://www.onsideyouthzones.org/youth-zones/wolverhampton-youth-zone/#sthash.eYWYTxan.dpuf

The Scala Cinema (façade), Worcester Street, Wolverhampton
This is all that remains of the row of small shops and businesses that formerly lined Worcester Street from between Little Brickiln Street and the original merging point with the Penn Road. Demolition has left a large triangle of land that is to be redeveloped, with due scrutiny by Wolverhampton Council. Luckily, the façade is to be integrated into the new development when it eventually materialises*. http://www.tweedale.co.uk/triangle.htm
* No, it was demolished circa 2013!!
George Peck writes this: There were shops all along Worcester Street, and the Scala Picture House was near the bottom. It was a big picture house with an arched roof. It faced Church Street and was one of the first to have a musician playing to the audience in the break, a violinist. He was a little Jewish chap with a hunch back, called Loui Rennie. He was a good violinist.
