Statue of Dr Ambedkar at the Buddha Vihara, Wolverhampton
The Buddha Vihara Community Centre in Upper Zoar Street is named in memory of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar (1891-1956). This statue of him was unveiled by the Mayor of Wolverhampton on 14 October 2000, and shows him teaching, and holding a copy of his book, "Buddha and his Dhamma". Bharat Ratna Bodhisatva Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (डॉ.भीमराव रामजी आंबेडकर) (14 April 1891 — 6 December 1956), also known as Babasaheb, was an Indian jurist, political leader, Buddhist activist, philosopher, thinker, anthropologist, historian, orator, prolific writer, economist, scholar, editor, revolutionary and a revivalist for Buddhism in India.
