Villiers Works - Marston Street
Villiers started as an offshoot of Sunbeam cycles using modern production methods at a purpose built factory. The company developed and patented a free-wheel system for bicycles. Following the death of the founder John Marston the Sunbeam company was sold but Villiers Engineering was retained by his son, Charles. The company moved in to production of engines and motor cycles. Some of the final products were engines for the Norton Commando. The works closed in 1974 a casualty of the demise of Norton Triumph and the British motorcycle industry.
