Star Car Works - Frederick Street
The Star Works was built in 1903 providing 40,000 square feet of factory space around a central courtyard. The Star Company built their first bicycle in 1869 and first car in 1892. This was one of the first purpose built car factories. The company operated until 1928 when it was taken over by Guy Motors. The listed building is now a furniture factory outlet.

Site of Wearwell Works - Pountney Street
A modern factory building occupies the site. Wearwell were in the forefront of motorcycle manufacture in the early 1900s after dabbling with car building. They built motorcycles on this site until 1909 notably the Wolf. Engines were provided by the Stevens brothers. The failure of Wearwell prompted the Stevens brothers to set up the AJS factory on Retreat Street.

Factory buildings in Frederick Street, Wolverhampton
This is the former Star Motor Company. It is now the Starworks Warehouse music and events venue. Built in 1903, ‘Star Motors’ was one of the first mass production car manufacturing plants in the UK. The industrial warehouse now holds regular music festivals, contemporary art exhibitions, family weekends, street food events and vintage fares! There is a blue plaque on the building with the text: EDWARD LISLE 1852-1921 FOUNDER - STAR Cycles, Cars and Commercial Vehicles. first STAR Cycle built 1869. first STAR Car built 1897.
