Summer Row, Wolverhampton
At the junction with Temple Street. A large, failed redevelopment scheme named after this area has failed following many years of wrangling and argument between the council and potential developers. There are many derelict or dilapidated retail and small commercial properties in the area. As this is so close to the city centre, it has all resulted in a real blight on Wolverhampton. Until recently, the building on the right, with its more recent curved corner was a bingo hall. Before that it was the Dorchester Ballroom, then Club, well attended by the "teddy boys" in the 1950s, then the Beach Night Club. What a pity the people with authority have been less effective than the lovely Jessica* on the "sports drink" advertisement! The bus is a 512 going to Warstones. That route has now been renumbered 2, and joined with the former route to Bushbury to form a cross-city route. *edit 4 August 2012: JESSICA ENNIS - OLYMPIC HEPTATHLON CHAMPION, LONDON 2012 Now that's what I CALL a celebrity!! Inspire a generation was the motto; if she can't, no-one can!! :-))) Update: This and the neighbouring former rollerdrome/casino in Temple Street have now been totally reclad in bright red Casino 36 colours, the new "super" casino opening in November 2016.

Former bingo hall in Summer Row, Wolverhampton
The frontage of this building is in Temple Street. It was formerly the Dorchester Ballroom then Club, much frequented by the "teddy boys", then later it became a bingo hall. Now it has been totally reclad in the colours of Casino 36, and the new super casino opened in November 2016. Former bingo hall in Temple Street, Wolverhampton
This is looking up Temple Street from the junction with Summer Row. Formerly the bingo building was the (1950s?) Dorchester Ballroom, then Club (well liked by the "teddy boys"), then the Beach Night Club. The modern façade of The Rubicon Casino is the next building. Both these venues have now been reclad with a new façade for Casino 36 (opened November 2016). A large redevelopment scheme named after Summer Row has failed following many years of wrangling and argument between the council and potential developers. There are many derelict or dilapidated retail and small commercial properties in the area. As this is so close to the city centre, it has all resulted in a real blight on Wolverhampton.
