Casino in Temple Street, Wolverhampton
Rubicon is still here after going into administration in 2009. Casino 36 took over but must have considered the name worth keeping. The modern red brick frontage disguises the fact revealed by an aerial view, that this appears to be an older building, and was actually a former skating rink (opened 11 November 1939) subsequently called the Rollerdrome, then Whispering Wheels (closed in the mid 1970s and destroyed by fire in 1976). At the end of Temple Street in this image is the grey block, formerly Netto (and before that Rackham's) which has been empty for several years in anticipation of the now failed Summer Row redevelopment project. This and the adjacent former bingo hall (formerly Dorchester Ballroom, then Club) have now together been clad with a new Casino frontage, all of which opened in November 2016.

Parking on derelict land in Wolverhampton
This shows part of the dereliction caused by many years of wrangling and argument leading to the collapse of the Summer Row redevelopment project in Wolverhampton City centre. The Rubicon Casino uses this small site in Temple Street. The Church of St John in the Square dominates the skyline.
