Housing development on Ward Street
Persimmon Homes have acquired the site of the former Carillion plant and vehicles depot on Ward St, and are now opening it up for housing development. There's an interesting irony in this picture, in that Carillion is the name taken by the former Tarmac Construction division, when it was floated off by Tarmac PLC in the mid 1990s. The two silos that you see to the right of the picture are installed by Tarmac Building Products for the duration of the building work, and provide a supply of high-quality, ready-mixed, but dry brick-laying mortar. So it was once one Tarmac operation, and is now being rebuilt with the assistance of another one.
