Lichfield Street in Wolverhampton
Looking west from the northern end of Piper's Row. The large white building with pavement canopy on the right is the former Co-op furniture store, which closed in 1987. Wetherspoon's "Moon-under-Water" pub operates in part of it and there are plans to expand as a hotel and museum, but the adjacent O'Connell's Wine Bar closed in 2010.

Former Co-operative building, Lichfield Street
The Co-operative was a significant user of terracotta (or faience) both for small stores and large ones like this. This pale variety was particularly favoured during the Art Deco period between the wars; this example dates from 1938, although it was not completed until after 1950. The far end is now occupied by a Wetherspoons pub.
