The Hog's Head, Wolverhampton

Architecture in Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton
Although shop fronts below can be very brash, or mundane it is often the architecture above ground floor level which shows how impressive many of our old city buildings are - and well worth retaining. The three chimney stacks top numbers 29-33 Lichfield Street. Following slum clearance, Lichfield Street was widened and redeveloped in the early 1880s. Ancient and Modern, Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton
Hopefully, no more of the fine facades of earlier centuries will be replaced by modern frontages seen further along this street in the city centre. I have heard that some of the premises in this street have basements of as many as seven floors including reaching (at one time) under the street itself. Image]
