Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal at Cross Green, Staffordshire
This is in the middle of the ten mile long summit pound of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Thirty one locks brought it up to this level (a rise of 294 feet, 90 metres) from the River Severn at Stourport. Twelve more locks (starting at Gailey) will drop canal towards the Trent and Mersey Canal at Great Haywood Junction.

Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal at Cross Green, Staffordshire
The long straight section here provides very convenient moorings for patrons of the nearby public house. Mooring on the bend by that pub invites scraping by passing boats when another approaches from the south.

Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, Coven, Staffordshire
The building on the bend is the ever popular Fox and Anchor, more an "eatery" than a pub these days. When ten or twenty narrow-boats are moored here, approach from the south with caution, because if a boat is coming the other way, inaccurate tiller work will result in some paint scraping!

The Fox and Anchor at Cross Green, Staffordshire
More an "eatery" than a pub, this is the only option for thirsty boat crews on this stretch of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Mooring close by on the bend can result in interesting circumstances when two moving narrowboats meet and need to pass each other, and either tiller man is inexperienced. :-)

Flags of Convenience?
The modern narrowboats of the Viking Afloat 'Longboat' Fleet are gathered en masse at Cross Green on the Staffs & Worcs Canal. The fleet sails under the Norwegian flag.

Mooring up at the Anchor Inn
