Trees and twin flumes near Four Ashes, Staffordshire
Seen from the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, the true size of the whole structure can be seen. This glimpse of the twin flumes is through (partly) ash tree foliage; now there's a surprise! Image]

Energy Recovery Facility at Four Ashes
This is run by Veolia on behalf of Staffordshire County Council. It processes household waste from several central English councils to generate, so I am told, up to 22MW of energy each year. It is viewed here from the towpath of the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal.

New incinerator (detail) at Four Ashes, Staffordshire
Following plenty of controversy, this £122M incinerator is well on the way to completion. The twin flumes will release cleaned water vapour into the air.

Calf Heath Bridge No 77
On the Staffs & Worcs Canal. This side of the bridge has been widened in 1989 to take heavy lorries travelling to the industrial units on this side of the low railway bridge. The bridge appears to be a concrete arch with a brick facing. A curious choice of modern bricks perhaps is a little garish? and has not mellowed with time. But again the other side could not be described as attractive.
