Autherley Junction west of Oxley, Wolverhampton
This is where the Shropshire Union Canal (formerly Liverpool and Birmingham Canal) meets the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.
The image shows Junction Bridge (No 1). Through the arch a stop lock giving a rise of about 15cm was placed which ensured that no S & W water could be "stolen" by the newer L & B Canal. Very occasionally the levels of both canals equalises, and the both gates can be operated without a windlass.
