Housing in Akron Gate
The name for the housing development recalls the site's former use as a tyre factory and European HQ for Goodyear Tyres. Goodyear set up a plant on the site adjacent to the Stafford Road in the mid 1920s.

Former Goodyear Works
There are plans to build housing, shops and re-locate a primary school on to the site which was cleared in 2008. Goodyear opened a factory for their European operations on the site in 1927. The plant was overtaken by new factories opened in Eastern Europe and Far East.
