A rather confusing road layout - especially when turning left, as you unexpectedly have to give way twice - on the junction of Broadway and Birmingham Road. One of those things you learn about for the driving theory test and hope you'll never meet.

Looking north-west from the main teaching block and towards Gorway Road. The teaching college was built circa 1963. Much of it has now been demolished* (2006-2008). With a lot of new building and extensive open air facilities, the site now functions as a sports centre, aping the Americans by being referred to as the Walsall Campus of the University of Wolverhampton. * The far building on the right survives. It housed the students bar, and tutorial rooms. Closer and also surviving, is the wing which housed tutorial rooms and music practice rooms. In the foreground is the top of A Block (student and tutor residential wing), now demolished. Not a good image, but so much has changed it is worth retaining. The image has been scanned from an underexposed Agfa CT18 transparency dated February 1970.

THE PERFORMANCE HUB is the Walsall Campus of the University of Wolverhampton. This new building opened in September 2011, as the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure. This building replaced the West Midlands College of Higher Education Image] which was demolished in March 2008 Image] Image The former teacher training college was also part of the University of Wolverhampton.

Samuel Johnson was a Lichfield man. Pity they didn't name the building, Jerome K Jerome who was a Walsall man.

As this building is finally demolished, the grid square will need to be re-drawn as the student accommodation and teaching block no longer exist.

Blocks D, E, F and G are shown here, backed by the main "teaching block" in "the quadrangle". The art department was on the top floor. The well patronised Students' Bar was off to the right. Sadly a unique piece of architecture disappears because no-one cares. The demolition crew said they had never come across a building as strong as this one

I have this labelled as the K and L residential blocks, so I must have been looking south-west from within the "quadrangle". The college was built circa 1963.
