Leather goods factory. Of interest to me as it had a fan driven by a steam engine by Bumsted & Chandler of Hednesford.

Bus on Bradford Street, Walsall
This rather out of the way bus stop, on the southern fringe of Walsall town centre, was being used for buses to the Yew Tree estate when this picture was taken. However, you wouldn't know it from the very unhelpful destination on this MCW Metrobus Mk2. This was the last day of operation of Metrobuses in Walsall by Travel West Midlands. Built in Birmingham, the Metrobus was bought in large numbers by the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive and its post deregulation successor, West Midlands Travel, from 1979 until the end of production of the type in 1989. In 2010, National Express West Midlands (as West Midlands Travel has now become) withdrew its last Metrobuses.

John Shannon, Walsall
We were here to photograph a disused steam engine that used to drive a large propeller type ventilating fan in this old factory. This site was part of a local redevelopment when, in August 2007, it was consumed by a catastrophic fire, probably deliberate. The site has now been cleared. The fate of the engine is unknown.

It doesn't go anywhere near Bradford; it runs from the town centre up towards Caldmore. The house roughly 100 yards away, and immediately above the bus, is the Image

Old Shannon's Mill site
This was once the site of a landmark building in Walsall, the Shannon's Mill which was sadly destroyed in a fire. There is a photograph on this the Geograph site of Shannon's Mill before the fire, taken from what was the Sainsbury's car park. This photograph was taken from the top of the new Asda multi storey car park.
