Tame Valley Canal, Friar Park
We are looking westward from the Walsall Road bridge. The Tame Valley Canal is late and straight. It opened in 1844, when the boom in building railways, which undercut canals, was well under way, but it was successful in bypassing congested sections of the Birmingham Canal Navigation. The opening of the Rushall Canal, three years later in 1847, connected it to coal mines and limestone quarries in Staffordshire. See Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tame_Valley_Canal .
