Statue of Edward Winslow
The date of 1620 on the plinth below this small statue of Edward Winslow is significant as it was the year the Mayflower sailed to the new world establishing the Plymouth Colony. Edward Winslow was born in Droitwich in 1595. He was governor of Plymouth Colony three times, in 1634, 1636, and 1644. He returned to England in 1646, during the English Civil, to fight against the king. He never returned to Plymouth Colony, in 1654 Edward Winslow fought in the West Indies against the Spanish. They defeated the Spanish in battle but Winslow became ill and died from yellow fever. He was buried at sea. There is a picture of him in Pilgrim Hall Museum, Plymouth, MA. When young he is thought to have lived in a farmhouse at Kerswell Green SO8646 : Kerswell Green Farm to the south of Worcester. It's a shame Droitwich couldn't have placed this statue in a more prominent location rather than an ugly shopping centre. The statue was sculpted by Sara Ingleby-Mackenzie

Droitwich Spa, Raven Hotel
On St. Andrew's Street; Elizabethan in origin, restored and enlarged in 1897. Salt workers' statue, Victoria Square, Droitwich
This is a representation of working in an open pan salt works. I saw this for real in the early 1980s at Lion Salt Works, Cheshire. This ceased in Droitwich a long time ago, possibly the 1920s.
