Worcester and Birmingham Canal
New flats on either side of the canal leading north out of the Diglis basin. The cathedral will soon be obscured by the redevelopment of the porcelain factory on the left.

Worcester and Birmingham Canal - steamboat Lady Selsey engine
Lady Selsey Image is a modern vessel to a traditional design and is normally based in the Selsey area on the south coast. The owner built all his own steam plant and this is the main steam engine. It is mechanically, if not visually elegant and is an oscillating vee twin. The cylinders are held up against the port faces by a spring loaded trunnion and the force of the spring can be adjusted to compensate for working the engine hard. The lever pointing to top left is the reverser and operates a simple 'changeover' valve in a drum shaped casing. The engine drives to the propshaft via a chain and 2:1 speed increasing gearing.

Looking north from a new pontoon
The Diglis basins have just been equipped with new mooring pontoons . In a few months time the redevelopment of this area will begin to look finished though the completion is said to be three years away for the whole of the old Royal Worcester factory site.

Worcester & Birmingham Canal - engine of steamboat Lizzzeee
Lizzzeee is a modern steamboat based on traditional lines. The plant consists of a solid fuel fired vertical fire tube boiler and a modified Stuart Turner inverted vertical compound with a piston valve on the high pressure (as designed it was a slide valve). There is a keel condenser. The vertical lever extending up from the floor is the manual boiler feed pump.
The Steamboat Association produces a detailed register of FBI's type of vessel but of the four vessels in Worcester on this occasion, only two were in with either a minimal amount of data or information that appeared no longer valid.
