While out walking I came across this creature lurking in a garden on Hanley Terrace near Malvern Wells.

The milestone is located by the south side of the gate into 121 Wells Road, in the hedge, on the west side of the road. Parish of Malvern Wells, (Malvern Hills District). Carved stone post (plate lost), Worcester Cross iron plate design, erected by the Worcester turnpike trust in the 19th century. The plate is now located in the Butcher's Row Museum, Bromyard. Inscription once read:- TO / WORCESTER / CROSS 10 / MILES Carved benchmark on top left Milestone Society National ID: WO_WOLB10

Large Victorian houses of different styles; many using the popular, but rather unsuitable, Malvern granite as the wall material.

A Pivot bench mark; numbered PV0150 on top of the milestone 10 miles from Worcester Cross. The plate giving the distance is missing from the milestone. Notice how little of the milestone is visible with changes to the ground level. Image

Looking south along the level terrace above the Wells Road. The large Victorian houses have commanding views over the Severn Plain to the Cotswolds. Notice how the houses are of different designs. The brick-walled house shows many Gothic influences (e.g. arches) often seen in Malvern perhaps reflecting on the fervour to restore the ancient priory church at this time. Further down the houses are made of Malvern granite from the many quarries which threatened to destroy the Malvern Hills.
