Former ticket office
This is a survivor of days gone by, this was the ticket office from the days of perilous coach travel. Even with the arrival of the railway this ticket office received an extra lease of life for originally the nearest the railway came to Worcester was Spetchley; railway passengers first had to buy a ticket here for the coach to get them to the railway station some three miles to the east of the city. This window is in Crown Passage, just off Broad Street. The Crown which is still there, today is a Wetherspoons pub. Originally it was a coaching inn with a yard and stables. The stagecoach is mentioned as far back as 1674, however, the first 'Flying Coach' bound for London left Worcester on 11 June 1733.
