Former Woolworths, Worcester
This Worcester High Street store used to be the site of Woolworths
Image] until they swapped premises with M&S. After almost a year of refurbishment the new M&S store is almost ready to open. M&S already have the store immediately to the right, so the swap means they will have a much larger store on one site.

Sir Edward Elgar and 'Chicken' George
Two of Worcester's famous citizens, Sir Edward Elgar and 'Chicken' George. The world famous composer Sir Edward Elgar, who was born just outside Worcester and grew up above the family music shop near this spot. Less well known, but remembered by the people of Worcester, is 'Chicken' George, real name George Webb who was a local character, regularly seen on the streets of Worcester. He always appeared to be enjoying himself, particularly if there was a busker, George would usually be standing a few feet away dancing in only the way he could to the music. Even when he became older and could no longer walk, he would be there on a mobility scooter jigging away. He was also prone to let's say some colourful language on occasion. He died some ten years ago.
