Royal Worcester
Amazing bone and stone grinding mill (for producing the raw ingredients of bone china). This was steam powered by beam engine until about the 1950s and then motor powered. It was a wonderful find but I don't know if it's still there. It was pretty much in the middle of a working pottery.

Royal Worcester bone and stone mill.
I am delighted to hear that this will be preserved. The other steam powered mill is at Etruria, Stoke. Worcester was latterly motor driven although the beam engine house survives at one end and is recognisable by its height and fenestration.

Royal Worcester bone mill engine house
The remains of the beam engine house that housed the motive power for the mill. The two central columns and entablature are clearly visible and a wall has been added behind the columns. The lump bottom right is the replacement electric motor drive to the grinding pans. The sector with holes on the wall is the barring rack for turning the engine's flywheel.

Royal Worcester bone mill
The massive drive gearing on the ground floor. This mill has been urban explored in the not too distant past but my pictures date back to when it was in the middle of a working pottery.

Grinding pan Royal Worcester
A close up of one of the bone and/or stone grinding pans at Royal Worcester. The iron sweep arms push runner stones around on a stone bed for wet grinding. Chert was used typically. Note the dog clutch and vertical shaft taking power to the upper pans.
