The Fownes Hotel, Worcester
The Fownes Hotel is situated on the side of City Walls Road. Work on building the factory began in 1884 and took three years to complete. The company which was started by John Fownes in the early eighteenth century moved from London to Worcester at the time of the building's completion. At the time the company employed around 1000 people. In 1974, with the decline in demand for gloves the factory closed with the company moving its business and manufacture to Warminster in Wiltshire. In the mid 1980s the building was converted into a hotel. The building used to house the Fownes Glove Factory.

This was the former Fownes glove factory but has been a hotel for two decades or more. Worcester was a centre of the gloving industry and there is still one small factory at work (2013) on a more domestic scale.

Late Georgian brick. Unlike much else in the street, these do not appear to be remodellings of timber-framed houses. Grade II listed.
