Statue of Sir Edward Elgar
Worcester's most famous son Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934) was born just outside Worcester at Broadheath http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/77280. This statue stands at the end of the High Street, opposite the Cathedral. Near this spot Sir Edward Elgar's father had a music shop, though this premises is long gone and is now the site of a modern shopping centre. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Elgar

Lychgate Development, Worcester
Viewed from the top of the cathedral tower. The Lychgate area of the city was flattened in the late 1960s and the Giffard Hotel, car park and shopping complex was erected. The row of treetops shows the now pedestrianised high street which was once the main A38 road from Derby to Plymouth before the M5 motorway was built.
