Worcester Guildhall
Worcester Guildhall was begun in 1722 by architect Thomas White, a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren. The ornate front of the building reflects Worcester's status as the 'faithful city' with statues of three Stuart monarchs, King Charles I, King Charles II and Queen Anne. Guildhall, Worcester
In 1717 the city administration decided on a new Guildhall, Thomas White was not only an architect but a stone mason. He carved a statue of Queen Anne to stand in front of the building. Over the entrance is a huge carving incorporating the Hanoverian royal arms. On the rooftop are figures of Labour, Peace, Justice, Plenty, and Chastisement.
