The site of Dover Lock on the Leigh Branch of Leeds Liverpool Canal
The lock was necessary because of subsidence caused by coal mining.It fell out of use when the canal was shored up with spoil from the mine workings

Dover Lock No.1
The narrowing of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal (Leigh Branch) is the no longer required lock. Mining subsidence has made the canal levels vary so that this lock and Dover Lock No.2 behind the camera are no longer required

Dover Lock Inn, Abram
This inn lies next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The locks have long been removed as mining subsidence changed land levels.
