Replacement Water Tower
The Empress Mill once stood proudly next to lock 79. The last part to be demolished was an impressive Acrrington brick water tower right beside the canal. This new tower is sadly but a pale imitation.

To help boaters up the 21 locks, which can be heavy going, British Waterways provide lock-keepers to assist by going on ahead and setting the locks. At the sixth lock up the Flight.
