Coops Factory, Dorning Street
Built 1871 and extended 1888. Timothy Coop developed the factory to provide employment for women made redundant as a result of the Cotton Famine of the 1860s. Listed Grade II. Now in use as a small businesses centre.

Not quite so grand
The former Grand Hotel on Dorning Street looking extremely down-at-heel. It has the feel of never having been quite as grand as the name may have suggested.
The date 1924 on the gables probably refers to a rebuilding, maybe when the mock half-timbering was applied.
