Topiary, Church and Almshouses on Robin Lane
This site was the vision of Robert Holgate who was Archbishop of York from 1545 to 1553. He decreed in his will that almshouses should be built to provide for elderly persons from the local parishes and today 24 single-storey cottages (built in 1856) stand among lawns, gardens and woodland. The front row of cottages are out of sight to the left nearer to the lane.
