This is a steep footpath to a bridge over the railway in the cutting. Part of the path is stepped and some is cobbled. The iron railings are a necessity.

Addingford Lane bridge
Addingford Tunnel was uncovered in 1927, leaving a very deep cutting with four tracks (later reduced to two as it now carries much less freight, and probably also fewer passenger trains than it used to). The section of Addingford Lane that had crossed over the tunnel was replaced with this bridge to provide access to Addingford Mill.
